Opportunity to apply for SC408 Temporary Activity Visa

The purpose of endorsing the (COVID-19 Pandemic Event Stream) new visa option 408 Temporary Activity is to provide a way for previous and current temporary visa holders to lawfully stay in Australia and to also address the workforce shortages in critical industry sectors including agriculture, food processing, health care, aged care, disability care and child care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This temporary visa allows you to stay in Australia to work if you are employed in a critical industry sector stated above during the COVID-19 pandemic period. You may continue to stay in Australia if you have no other visa options and are unable to depart Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
To be eligible for this visa you must:
• Have a current visa that expires in 28 days or less or your last substantive temporary visa expired less than 28 days ago.
• Also, either have evidence from your employer that you have ongoing work in a critical sector and that an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident cannot fill the position or demonstrate you can’t meet the requirements of any other visa.
• Maintain acceptable health insurance during your stay in Australia.
It is important to note that If you are not working in a critical sector, you can only apply for the COVID-19 Pandemic event visa if you have no other visa options available to you.
Please also note that People who need to apply for the COVID-19 Pandemic event visa as the last choice to remain lawfully in Australia until their departure will not be granted permission to work.
There is no visa application fee and you can stay up to 12 months if you are working in the critical sectors or else you may be granted a visa that would let you stay up to six months for you to remain lawful while you are unable to travel your home country from Australia.
