Lahmacun has gained popularity around the world, it has become one of the most popular fast-foods in Turkey. It qualifies as one of the healthier fast-foods around, and also known as “Turkish Pizza”

But what exactly is Lahmacun?

Lahmacun is also known as “Turkish Pizza” and why is that?

Paprika, red pepper flakes, and, on occasion, cinnamon are used to create a unique combination of fresh ingredients used in lahmacun. The spicy mixture is spread over the thinly rolled dough and baked in a natural wood-fired oven similar to pizza.

How do you eat Lahmacun?

Originally it’s usually paired with Ayran, a traditional Turkish drink made with yogurt, water, and a pinch of salt, or “salgam”, a sour-spicy turnip beverage. Lahmacun is traditionally topped with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, onions, and a squeeze of lemon juice before being rolled and eaten like a wrap.

Where is Lahmacun originally from?

Many people associate lahmacun with Turkey's southeastern region, particularly the provinces of Urfa and Gaziantep, where it originated. But, Each province has its own lahmacun style, each with its own set of connoisseurs. Armenia, Lebanon, and Syria are also big fans of Lahmacun. Despite the fact that the dish has been around for thousands of years, it has only recently begun to gain popularity in recent decades.

Although the true origin of Lahmacun is a mystery, most people agree that it originated in either Turkey or Armenia.
