Melinda Smith

I have been hairdressing for 23 years. During this time I have worked in many facets within this industry. I completed my four year apprenticeship in Inverell, NSW. Shortly after this I wanted to travel and explore the world so I applied for a position with the London based company Steiner working onboard luxury cruise ships. For the next 10 years I got to travel our magnificent world and met many amazing people. The experience that I gained from managing the Day Spa for 8 years was invaluable, co-ordinating a staff of up to 26. But after 10 years at sea I decided it was time to settle down on land. I had met my now husband David, a pilot and moved to Grafton, NSW to spend more time with him. I opened my first Salon ‘Hair at the Manse’ at our home. It was the old Presbyterian Manse, a magnificent old heritage house that we were renovating. I had a very busy little salon and I loved my clients and my work. Unfortunately the airline my husband was working for closed down and we had to move on. In Emerald, our next home, I managed a salon. David and I got married and had amazing wedding with family and friends. My husband then took a new pilot position in Brisbane, and we went on to have our two beautiful little boys Riley and Cooper. In 2013 David’s employer moved us to Singapore. This was such as exciting adventure and we loved every minute of it, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be for as long as we had hoped. We are now ready to make Brisbane our home and I’m very excited to announce the opening of Ginger & Spice!
