The fine folk behind The Gospel are rye whiskey fanatics. In fact - they are Australia’s only dedicated producer of this hard-to-master whiskey style.

Under the educated gaze of Master Distiller, Ian Thorn they hand produce straight rye that combines the techniques of the rye experts in the USA with 100% Australian ingredients and Melbourne’s uniquely unpredictable climate.

Ian is a Master Distiller in every sense combining the theoretical from his master's in Distillation with the practical knowledge of over two decades in brewing and distilling.

The Gospel uses 100% unmalted rye sourced from a single farmer in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. It’s a small, dense and flavourful grain that is hardy enough to survive the harshest of growing conditions.

Their standard expression is deep and complex with a spicy richness that is nicely balanced by vanilla oak sweetness.

This limited release has spent a further six months nestled at the top of their Brunswick warehouse in three fortified casks - apera, chardonnay tawny and fortified semillion.

Absorbing the full force of Melbourne’s summer the nose is complex with roasted walnut, maple syrup, clove, leather and fig opening up into orange marmalade, fruitcake and bitter caramel on the palate. The fortified casks give a richer and sweeter finish than their regular straight rye with dried red fruit, crème caramel and woody spices lingering.
