A 9-year-old heavily peated single malt from Bruichladdich, released under the Octomore name. Bottled as the Wind & Wave label, this cask is certainly special as one of the few Octomore independent bottlings.
To see a 9yo Octomore, matured in bourbon casks and independently bottled is always an exciting prospect for us.
Having lost a significant amount of ABV in its 9 years of maturation, the Wind & Waves folks made an interesting decision.
Regauged to 50% ABV, this Octomore is designed to be compared to its 9yo Port Charlotte brother (also available from today) at 50% also.
Nose: Coastal air and seaweed, plus hints of milky coffee and vanilla pod.
Palate: Fresh fruit - green apples, white grapes and more - shortly followed by another helping of smoky peat.
Finish: Nutty on the finish, but once again still peaty.
