Whisky-making is an ancient craft that has a touch of magic about it. Grain, yeast, water and wood come together to make something that truly transcends the sum of its parts.
This sorcery is celebrated by Bruichladdich in The Black Arts series. Under the cover of darkness Head Distiller, Adam Hannett, raids the pre-renaissance casks that have been quietly aging in the warehouse to create something truly unique.
Black Arts 10.1 is a whisky of depth and complexity. Utilising casks of unrivalled provenance it is mahogany to the eye.
The nose is warm and inviting with a bright fruity note that welcomes you. Toasted oak brings chocolate praline, cedar, leather and subtle hints of clove and nutmeg before moving to sweet apricot jam, ripe melon, dark cherries and blackcurrants.
The palate reveals barley sugars, ginger nut biscuits and lemon meringue pie followed by sweet apricot jam and marzipan. Smooth chocolate and vanilla notes are beautifully complemented with syrupy fruit, raisins, plum and melon.
Smooth fudge brings a softness to the finish, with ripe soft fruits, subtle tobacco and a hint of ginger lingering.
10.1 is a worthy member of the outstanding Black Arts series and is in extremely limited supply. It will take speed and a little bit of black magic to snap one of these up.
