Where are the best pre-wedding photo locations in Sydney?

This is easily the most popular question we get! Sydney is a photographer's dream, offering an incredible variety of backdrops to match any couple's personality. While the options are nearly endless, here are some of our tried-and-true favourite spots, each offering a unique vibe:

  • For Historic Charm & Rustic Textures: The Rocks & Observatory Hill With its cobblestone laneways, historic sandstone buildings, and stunning views of the Harbour Bridge, this area offers a timeless, romantic feel. Nearby Observatory Hill provides a beautiful park setting with one of the most iconic panoramic views of the city.

  • For Lush Greenery & Classic Harbour Views: The Royal Botanic Garden It's impossible to go wrong here. You get the best of both worlds: sprawling, beautifully manicured gardens and direct, breathtaking views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It’s versatile, elegant, and quintessentially Sydney.

  • For Dramatic Coastlines & Golden Sands: La Perouse If you're dreaming of a windswept, natural setting, La Perouse is perfect. It features a unique combination of rustic bridges, calm beaches, and rugged ocean cliffs. It's especially magical at sunset when the light hits the coastline.

  • For Urban Chic & Modern Lines: Barangaroo & The City For a more contemporary, cosmopolitan feel, the sleek architecture and waterfront promenades of Barangaroo are fantastic. Or, we can wander through the heart of the CBD, capturing the city's dynamic energy for a truly modern love story.

In our experience, the best location is one that resonates with you as a couple. Are you city-dwellers, beach lovers, or nature enthusiasts? Let's chat about your story, and we can suggest the perfect spot to tell it.

What should we wear for our pre-wedding shoot?

Our number one rule is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident—it will absolutely show in your photos! Think of your outfits as an extension of your personalities.

Here are a few extra tips we share with our couples:

  • Coordinate, Don't Match: Instead of wearing the exact same colour, choose outfits with complementary tones. Think soft blues and creams, or earthy greens and browns. This creates a harmonious look without being too uniform.

  • Embrace Movement: Flowy dresses, skirts, or a soft scarf can add a beautiful sense of movement and romance to your photos.

  • Avoid Loud Patterns & Logos: Very busy patterns or large logos can be distracting and may date your photos. Solid colours or subtle patterns tend to be more timeless and keep the focus on you.

  • Consider a Second Outfit: Want to get more variety from your session? Bring a second set of outfits! Many couples opt for one casual, everyday look and one more formal, "date night" outfit. It's a fantastic way to capture different facets of your relationship.

How long does a typical pre-wedding photoshoot last?

The simple answer is: it depends on our plan! At Fuss Photography, our process is never rushed.

Typically, most pre-wedding sessions last between 1 to 2 hours. A one-hour session is perfect if we're exploring a single location with one outfit. If you’re planning on visiting a second location or have an outfit change, scheduling a two-hour session is ideal. This ensures we have plenty of time to travel, change, and wander through each spot at a relaxed pace, allowing for spontaneous, candid moments to happen naturally.

When’s the best time of day to do a pre-wedding shoot?

Without a doubt, the most magical time for outdoor photos is during "golden hour."

This is the beautiful, soft light that occurs just after sunrise or about an hour before sunset. The sun is low in the sky, creating a warm, dreamy, golden glow that is incredibly flattering. It wraps you in beautiful light, eliminates the harsh shadows that midday sun can cause, and adds an undeniable touch of romance to every shot.

Sunrise sessions are a fantastic option for popular Sydney locations, as you get that gorgeous light all to yourselves before the crowds arrive. But if you're not an early bird, a sunset session is just as breathtaking.

Do we get to choose the photos we want edited?

Yes, absolutely! The final selection is a collaborative and exciting part of the process.

Our process at Fuss Photography is designed to put you in control of the final story. After our shoot, we'll provide you with a private online gallery containing all the best images (the "proofs"). You can then browse through them from the comfort of your home and select the absolute favourites that you want us to professionally edit and perfect.

This ensures that the final, beautifully finished images you receive are the ones that you truly love and will cherish forever.
