Leather Horse Bit
Fager's leather bits are particularly beneficial for horses that are sensitive to most bits, dislike metal bits, or experience wear on their teeth. The leather naturally adapts to the shape of the horse's mouth, making the bit a perfect, custom fit for each individual horse.
Each Fager leather bit is handcrafted to ensure the highest quality. The leather is carefully stitched by hand around a nylon-covered wire, ensuring that in the event of an accident, the horse is protected from the wire inside. This wire not only ensures safety but also helps maintain the shape of the bit.
Fager uses vegetable-tanned leather, free from harmful chemicals or artificial dyes.
If the bit becomes dry, we recommend soaking it in food-grade paraffin oil. Be sure that the stitching faces outward, away from the horse's mouth corners.
Note: Leather bits are not suitable for horses that tend to chew heavily on the bit. Damage caused by biting is not covered under warranty or eligible for complaints.
Sweet Iron Horse Bit
Sweet iron is a coating applied over a stainless steel bit. We offer both grey and blue sweet iron coatings.
The purpose of this coating is to mask the metallic taste of stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet flavour, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold onto the bit. With use, sweet iron will begin to oxidise and turn a brownish-grey colour; this is normal and expected. The more the sweet iron oxidises, the more 'sweet' taste is released. As this happens, the 'blue' colour will gradually fade.
