What's a lake trip without water activity?
Without a doubt, the recreation area's highlight is Lake Mead, a gigantic man-made reservoir capable of storing 28 million acre-feet of water at total capacity and offering chances for every possible water activity. Swimming is usually a common way to enjoy the water at Lake Mead. Still, visitors should bear in mind that there are no authorized beaches or lifeguards.
The leisure area also has multiple marinas where you can sail a boat and numerous secret coves to explore by canoe or kayak. Lake Mead is one of America's top freshwater scuba diving lakes, with excellent fishing for bass, catfish, and other species.
How about a trail hike?
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has miles of paths for hikers of all fitness levels, making it one of the most incredible hikes around Las Vegas. - Liberty Bell Arch: This 5.5-mile climb across challenging terrain rewards hikers with spectacular views of a natural stone arch and the Colorado River.
- Many of the park's trails are also available for equestrian riding, and bikers will discover various bicycle routes, including many mountain biking paths and miles of backcountry roads.
A Lake Mead Night-Out should be fun?
There are a dozen campsites in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Several of which have direct access to Lake Mead and adjoining Lake Mojave. There are primitive tent camping sites available, as well as full-hookup RV sites from park concessioners.
Although you can book a site online, many campsites leave spaces accessible for campers to occupy on a first-come, first-served basis. Backcountry camping is permitted in several locations of the park.

Pets are more than welcome at Lake Mead Recreation Area. In fact, Lake Mead National Park is one of America's most dog-friendly national parks, so feel free to bring your dog along on the hiking trails. However, please note that park rules allow pets to be on a 6-foot leash at all times and to never be left unattended.
