We are a group of dynamic and friendly musicians from the Melbourne Opera Orchestra, performing lesser-known chamber works as well as your favourites.
The Melbourne Opera Chamber Musicians (MOCM) began with the seed of an idea - the desire to perform Mozart's Horn Quintet - and a lot of big dreams. Co-Founders Bernadette Baker (Violin) and Phoebe Smithies (French Horn) worked tirelessly to make their big dreams become a reality when they coordinated MOCM's Premiere Concert on the 27th of February 2018.
Bernadette and Phoebe have been friends for a long time having played together in the Melbourne Opera Orchestra over the past decade. The Melbourne Opera (affectionately known as "Mopera") Orchestra is a secret gold mine of many brilliant musicians who have not had the opportunity to play chamber music on a regular basis.
MOCM was created to fill that void, and to provide accessible chamber music concerts to the public with an intimate and friendly atmosphere. We are committed to the promotion of Australian music and the works of female composers, as well as performing lesser-known chamber works that deserve an audience. MOCM employs a democratic process in programming by being inclusive to our fun, talented and diverse musician friends and their instruments.
Our vision of "Taking Chamber Music Back to the Salon" is all about playing the sort of good music that people back in the day would have enjoyed in their homes amongst their closest companions. In MOCM's 2018 season, we will explore several different venues to find which one most closely fits with our vision in creating that perfect intimate atmosphere. We also believe that wine is integral to the concert experience and Henkell Wines has been our very generous donor for interval drinks!
The Melbourne Opera Chamber Musicians are hoping to build a new audience of chamber music lovers. Our first concert was completely self-funded and turned out a huge success. We need the support of nice people like you to keep the momentum going. All of your generous donations will go towards funding future concerts. This includes the costs of venue hire, piano hire, refreshments, sheet music and promotional expenses.
