We’ve been operating in Australia for over 40 years, and are famous in the McDonald’s world for adding beetroot to our burgers and creating the world’s first McCafé in Melbourne. 

Our History

Back in 1971, we opened our first restaurant in a Sydney suburb called Yagoona. Today there are over 940 McDonald's restaurants across Australia, serving 1.7 million customers daily. We are a franchise business with over two-thirds of our restaurants owned and operated by individual businessmen and women, and we are proud of the contribution we make to the community and to the national economy. 

McDonald’s and our Franchisees employ over 100,000 people Australia-wide, in our restaurants and our five corporate offices. We offer world-class training, learning and development to all of our people - from our newest Crew Members to our Senior Executives. As a Registered Training Organisation, McDonald’s is in an unmatched position within our industry to create future leaders.

Our Commitment

McDonald’s Australia is committed to supporting Australian producers and manufacturers. Our first preference is always to source produce from within Australia whenever it is viable and appropriate to do so. However, subject to changes due to availability or seasonality, produce may be imported from other countries such as New Zealand or the United States.
