Keeping to the Japanese tradition of restaurants specialising in one particular dish, jugemu specialises in teppanyaki and shimbashi in hand-made soba. There are two separate entrances leading to either the vibrant modern space of jugemu or the calm traditional atmosphere of shimbashi. Whichever side you dine in, you can order from both menus.
We have a solid wine list, a unique sake & shochu selection and offer both local and Japanese beer with Orion(a popular Okinawan brand)
Jugemu specialises in teppanyaki (hot plate grilling), and more specifically, Osaka-style okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is a savoury pancake with shredded cabbage, topped with pork, beef , or seafood and a sweet worstershire based sauce.
There are 2 types of seating - normal tables and counter seating around the hot plate, but please don't expect us to throw the food, we want every morsel in your tummy not on the floor!
Shimbashi is all about soba. Hand-made buckwheat noodles are made fresh every day using organic buckwheat from Tasmania which is milled fresh with each batch. Soba is the essence of Japan in a bowl - so simple, yet has great depth and complexity.
The Shimbashi kitchen also handles Japanese classics such as tempura, sushi and sashimi, each prepared by our specialist chefs using the freshest sourced Australian produce. There are 2 types of seating in shimbashi - normal tables and traditional sunken tables where shoes must be taken off.
