Now proudly part of DuluxGroup, Feast Watson has become a nationally recognised name in professional timber finishes, and the choice of discerning woodcare enthusiasts, trade professionals and retail
Feast Watson has always been a pioneer and innovator in wood finishing systems. Founded by Percy Watson in partnership with John 'Jack' Feast in 1922, Feast Watson began life manufacturing traditional stains and varnishes in an inner city suburb of Sydney, with an aim to enhance and promote the natural beauty of wood. A small family owned business, Feast Watson produced high quality protective and decorative coatings, marketed under the brand name Watsonia.
In 1924, Feast Watson registered as a company and continued to grow under the family watch. Percy's twin sons, Bruce and Keith, joined the company in 1932 at the age of 15. Bruce continued working at the company until his retirement as Managing Director when the business was sold in the 1980's. Keith left the company in the early 1960's to return to the family's orginal home town of Melbourne. At that stage, Pecy's youngest son Colin joined the company and continued working there after the business was sold.
In 1988 the company was acquired by Alan Anderson, then sold again in 1991 to Maxwell Chemicals. During this period, Feast Watson continued to grow, developing a number of high quality marine grade coatings that provided significant growth in this area of the market.
With Maxwell Chemicals came the opportunity for national distribution. Sales of the Watsonia range, now branded Feast Watson, grew rapidly and continued to strengthen the premium positioning of the brand. Acquisition by Orica, in 1998, provided further opportunity to widen distribution of Feast Watson and expand the range, and also saw the launch of a commercial range of floor finishes in 1999.
