Civic Law

Civic Law is a Cairns criminal defence practice representing clients across Far North Queensland in criminal, traffic and youth justice matters. We appear in the Magistrates, District and Children’s Courts and assist clients at all stages of a matter, from police investigation and first appearance through to sentence, contested hearings and other defended proceedings.

Our work includes assault charges, domestic violence related matters, drug offences, traffic and licence matters, bail applications, police interviews, breaches, variations and other criminal allegations requiring clear advice and careful preparation. We also act in youth justice matters and regularly assist clients whose cases arise from regional and remote communities across Far North Queensland.

Civic Law was established to provide focused criminal defence representation. We are not a general practice. Our work is concentrated in criminal law, and that shapes how matters are prepared. Each case is analysed by reference to the actual allegations, the available evidence, the legal issues in dispute and the practical consequences for the client. That may involve identifying weaknesses in the prosecution case, testing the lawfulness of police action, preparing material for sentence, advising on plea and strategy, or preparing a matter properly for hearing.

We understand that clients are often dealing with urgent and stressful situations, including arrest, bail, licence consequences, court deadlines, employment risk and uncertainty about what happens next. Civic Law aims to provide advice that is clear, practical and specific to the case at hand.

Based in Cairns, we act for clients throughout Far North Queensland and offer representation grounded in criminal defence experience, careful case preparation and straightforward advice.
