Bishop Sessa Bistro and Wine Bar in Surry Hills takes a more casual approach to modern European dining than its predecessor and is focused on local, sustainable produce wherever possible.
Bishop Sessa – the man, the myth*
Bishop Sessa was a 15th century small town church figure in Italy with a love of food, wine and games in equal measures. Bishop Sessa’s infatuation with eating and drinking was matched only by his reverence for games, in particular chess and his dedication to the spiritual and physical welfare of his congregation.
Bishop Sessa’s generosity was also legendary. Gifts of fresh meat, fruit and vegetables given to him by grateful churchgoers often found their way into the houses of the poor with the only indication of their provenance being a small chess-board bishop carved from Parmesan left along with the other foodstuffs.
Our menu changes regularly as the seasons and available produce dictate but for the ultimate Bishop Sessa experience our 6 Course Degustation Menu with Matching Wines offers a broad insight into Chef Paul’s food philosophy and technique.
The Bishop Sessa wine list is assembled by Erez Gordon with a very strong bias toward variety and opportunity. With over 30 wines served by the glass and almost 200 on the list there are wines you know, wines you’ve never heard of and wines you’ve always wanted to try.
Located in the dining heart of Sydney, Bishop Sessa offers a variety of options for your next event whether it’s a group dinner, a large celebration dinner, a cocktail function or a corporate event.
Your event at Bishop Sessa will benefit from their years of experience as well as their dedication to ensuring all their guests, whether on a table for 2 or in a party of 80, receive the very best food and service.
