How to rank well in search engines

For a website to perform well in search engines it needs to be perceived by Google and Co. as being both ‘relevant’ (to a user’s search query) and ‘trustworthy’ (by virtue of its age and credentials has acquired a high level of authority). Credentials are established via endorsement of a website by its visitors, e.g. the time spent on a website, number of pages visited, visitor interaction, backlinks etc.

Suffice to say, if visitors go to your website and immediately ‘bounce’ away because they’re unable to find anything of value, or if your site takes too long to load, your trustworthiness may be compromised and this will be reflected by a poor website ranking – irrespective of your website’s age (or beauty! ;)).
