Simon J Thomson & Associates headed by Simon Thomson is dedicated to providing the highest possible quality patient care.
Simon Thomson graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1979, having trained at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He continued his surgical training at the Royal Melbourne and later overseas in the United Kingdom and finally in Sydney. His training was initially in general surgery and he gained his FRCS (Edinburgh) in 1986. Plastic surgery training was carried out over 6 years at a number of major centres, viz:
1987/1988 The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, United Kingdom.
1989 The Royal Hobart Hospital
1990 St Vincents Hospital Sydney
1991 Prince of Wales Hospital Sydney
1992 Westmead Hospital Sydney
Simon passed the FRACS (Plastic Surgery) in 1992 at his first attempt. In 1993 he moved to Hobart where he was appointed to the Royal Hobart Hospital as a VMO and also to the University of Tasmania as a senior lecturer in surgery. During the ensuing years Simon has had extensive experience in a number of areas including hand surgery, burns, treatment of head and neck cancer, cleft lip and palate surgery, breast surgery/reconstruction, trauma and aesthetic surgery. He has provided an on call service to both private and public hospitals over this 22 years.
Simon has also been active in a number of other professional areas. These include Chair of the State Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, senior lecturer in Emergency Management of Severe Burns (EMSB), board member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society, and currently Chair of Calvary Hospital Medical Advisory Committee.
