Rice Workshop - Sydney

The place you go when you want a taste of Japan. We’re a Japanese rice bar, and what started off as a DIY bar quickly evolved into a take away fast food place for rice bowls and skewers.
You may have heard that in Japan, you can get almost anything from a vending machine. Well, it’s true. In Don Buri, you get to place your order through a vending machine that has been imported from Japan, and even your rice portion comes from a special Japanese rice machine.
Our toppings, ingredients and sauces aren't just authentic, they’re packed with flavour and a culinary adventure on their own. Our rice bowls are efficient, satisfying and great value, made all the more awesome by the fact that there are so many options to choose from.
Originally from Nagoya, Japan, head chef Tom Suzuki started out working at a seafood wholesaler’s before opening a Sashimi et Bento place in Carnegie called Shyun. Before long, he had transformed the humble diner into a local favourite.
For Rice Workshop, he’s teamed up with successful food entrepreneur David Loh, who’s behind some of Melbourne’s biggest food brands including Dessert Story, Food Republik and Taiwan Café. Together, they hope to deliver something unique and innovative, an exciting yet affordable Asian eatery unlike anything you've seen.
Being the only Japanese rice bar in town makes us sound pretty cool, but wait until you actually step inside. Inspired by the energy of Japan’s famous Shibuya district, the décor is a feast for the senses, with its futuristic mix of street elements and origami sprinkled with a hint of Street Fighter.
It’s all part of the Rice Workshop experience. Not everyone can say they've been to Japan, but we like to think we’re bringing a little bit of Japan to everyone.
