Kong, located in Richmond is the brainchild of Chris Lucas (Chin Chin and Baby). The menu marries American barbecue techniques with Japanese and Korean flavours. Meat and seafood are cooked on an open-flamed charcoal grill or in a smoke oven. You eat with bread with chillies, pickles and kimchi. The food arrives fast, with each dish seeming to top the last. Flavours here are supercharged. Kong makes do with its small 60-seat space because it is functional that way. There is a mix of long communal tables, bar stools and smaller tables. Flourescent lighting, cooks in baseball caps and cutesy panda icons on the walls make Kong a charming, warm place to fill your tummy.
