Verde is a unique and truly special combination of fine dining and home-style southern Italian influence, led by owner and head chef Antonio Ruggerino.
Located on the corner of Riley and Stanley Street, in the iconic ‘Little Italy’ in East Sydney is the heritage listed Victorian building known as Verde Restaurant + Bar.
Verde is a unique and truly special combination of fine dining and home-style southern Italian influence, led by owner and head chef Antonio Ruggerino. The restaurant boasts an authentic Calabrian ambiance, reinforced by Antonio’s desire to serve family recipes that have survived generations with very slight changes.
Verde, meaning ‘green’ in Italian, is reflected in the menu’s commitment to fresh and raw produce, which naturally compliments Antonio’s passion for creating traditional yet innovative dishes. Verde’s signature dish is the pork Shank ragu as well as their famous fresh and homemade tomato sauces and decadent, mouth-watering desserts.
The internal styling is minimal but tasteful, with a unique collection of original, vintage posters and a selection of black and white family photographs taken in Calabria. The main dining room, with large windows opening onto the street, gets packed and busy – just like a family home before a celebration. The upper level features a marble bar and lounge with private rooms, to support both entertainment of guests at intimate gatherings, as well as corporate functions.
Antonio often steps out of the kitchen to greet guests, wait tables and welcome patrons to his “home away from home”, ensuring a memorable dining experience focused on warmth, connection, impeccable service, and spectacular food.
Verde is built on traditions, values and good quality southern Italian cuisine. Knowledge, culture and passion only add to Antonio’s vision of creating a complete unique dining experience that can be shared with friends, family and colleagues.
