Angela and Ronald have been married for over 30 years and have established a truly exceptional name for themselves within the Brisbane Community.
Angela was born in Hong Kong in 1956 and was surrounded by fresh produce and unlimited opportunities to experience some of Asia’s most exotic foods. Her passion for food began at the age of eight, and to this day her passion is still running strong. At the age of seventeen, Angela migrated to Australia with limited knowledge of the country, which would become her home, and of the English language. She was faced with the daunting task of surviving in a foreign land. It was only natural for her to turn to the hospitality industry, where she became a waitress in Sydney’s Chinatown and met Ronald.
Ronald grew up in the Guangzhou province of China and at the age of twenty-one he travelled to Hong Kong, where he re-united with his family. During this time, Ronald undertook a series of cooking lessons in Hong Kong’s busiest kitchens. Shortly after, Ronald migrated to Sydney to pursue his dreams of becoming a chef.
After growing out of their positions in Sydney, Angela and Ronald decided to make the move to the Sunshine State to learn the finer mechanics behind running a restaurant. In 1981 they founded their first restaurant, Abacus, with a friend; and one year later they established Taigum Gardens Chinese Restaurant. With the philosophy of providing first class service and serving delicious Chinese food using top quality ingredients, Angela and Ronald became the sole owners in 1985. Since then, the restaurant has provided succulent and heartwarming Chinese cuisine to locals as well as travellers whilst maintaining their vision.
