The Original Imperial Hotel was built in 1925 by Jim and Harry Corones. It was a grand two-storey wooden building and was the first two-storey building to go up in Quilpie.

The Imperial Hotel was run for many years by Jim and his wife, Vassilia Corones. After his death, Jim Corones was buried in the Quilpie Cemetery.

The Original Imperial Hotel burnt to the ground in the early hours of the morning on 18th January 1992. The owners at the time, Bill and Lyn Basket had the pub rebuilt and the new Imperial Hotel was officially opened on 3rd August 1992 by Sir Wallace Rae, a former Member for Gregory.
