Oyama Japanese Restaurant
Restaurants - Fortitude Valley, QLD
Come in and taste our sushi and sashimi, sit down and witness some swashbuckling teppanyaki, or spend some time becoming acquainted with our à la carte menu.
Opening its doors in Sunnybank Market Square way back in 1991, Oyama is one of Brisbane’s longest-standing Japanese restaurants. It moved to its current Fortitude Valley location in 2004, bringing with it a loyal customer base and new-found drive to set a new standard in Japanese dining.
Unlike the average suburban sushi train outlet, Oyama’s reputation has been built on head chef Da Shan’s quest for perfection, authenticity, enjoyment and ambience. When he first established Oyama with partner Josie, Da Shan was determined to reflect the soul and excitement he felt for Japanese cuisine.
Under Da Shan’s guidance, Oyama has become a culinary landmark, due as much to his behind-the-counter antics as to the sheer quality of his food. “The thing that brings our customers back time after time is not just the great food that only we can provide, but also the unique experience that customers have in our restaurant,” he says.
Don’t expect Zen serenity or rigid rules when you come to Oyama – you’ll instead be greeted with lively, joyful staff whose mission is to share with you the fun and flamboyance of Japanese cuisine. Oyama is an activity, an experience, and an opportunity to share our passion for not just eating food, but enjoying it.
As our head chef puts it, “People need a break from their hectic lifestyles, and dining in at Oyama is a great escape that lets people stop and take a breather.”
