Monarto Zoo established in 1983 as a pasture and breeding area, and officially opened to public in October 1993. The zoo is one of the biggest open-range zoos in the globe ranging over 1,500 hectares and is the habitat to more than 50 species of native and exotic mammals, reptiles, birds situated 60 minutes (70 kilometres) from South Australia's capital city Adelaide and is the entrance to the beautiful Murraylands region.
The zoo is now home to over 500 animals roaming meandeing in vistas as far as the eye can see. It's an escape from the city that immerses tourist in a normal safari-style setting. Throughout the years Monarto has commended remarkable breeding success and our enthralling, quirky and interesting animals have caught the hearts of our tourists.
